Hide and go Sniff – Scentwork and Mantrailing

Hi and welcome to Hide and go Sniff. We’re all about teaching your dog to use one of their greatest assets, their nose. And whether they are searching for a hidden article or trailing a missing person we’re sure you and your K9 companion will have lots of fun along the way.

I am a certified instructor for Scentwork UK and Mantrailing UK. This means that whether you want to teach your dog to search an area for a hidden article (scentwork) like the detection dogs at the airport, or you would like to find ‘missing’/hidden people (mantrailing) like a search and rescue dog you will be in safe and knowledgeable hands at Hide and go Sniff.

Our activities are so much fun for both dog and handler. The dogs love the opportunity to put their noses to work and indulge in this natural behaviour and as a handler and dog lover you will be amazed at just how clever your pooch is.

We are so inclusive too. As a low impact sport its great for all breeds, from Chihuahua to Mastiff and any age (from 4 months) and because dogs work individually even your reactive dogs get to play.These activities have other benefits too: Builds team work – Its tiring so is great for active dogs when ‘walkies’ isn’t an option – Helps improve self-control and confidence – Can help with frustration and anxiety by increasing focus – An improved bond will help improve recall – Builds optimism – Builds trust with new rescue dogs.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m Phil. Dogs have been a massive part of my life since I was teen, starting in my family home with our German Shepherd, Belle.Since then I have shared my home with so many four legged friends, from GSD’s to a Jack Russel, Lurchers to a Rottweiler and even a Chihuahua to name a few. Along the way I have assisted with a local dog breeder and an obedience school, always learning and always enjoying the company of mans best friend.For the last few years my latest companion, Koda and I have been working hard, learning the skills of scent detection and man-trailing. We were introduced to scentwork by a fellow trainer who believed it would be good for us for all the reasons above, (Koda was a boisterous rescue with next to no boundaries) and that’s when we fell in love with the world of scent.Now, as a certified Judge and trainer for Scentwork UK and Mantrailing UK, I hope to spread this fantastic activity further across Norfolk and enrich the lives of many more dogs.!
